$41.5 Million needed in repairs.
The Ohio Cities of Youngstown and Niles are already struggling.
State and federal grants (not loans) are needed, yet only $500,000 has been granted. The "water for profit" vultures are circling preparing to privatize Meander Water.
ODNR Earthquake Incompetence
ODNR thinks they can regulate earthquakes.
They Are Going To Try.
Who Regulates Meander Dam?
Guess Who?
Thousands of fracking jobs were promised by the Regional Chamber.
After 10 years, they managed to grow this promise to 17 non union jobs.
Not 1,700 jobs.
Seventeen.
(estimated)
BP Leased 87,000 acres from Trumbull County landowners for $3,200 per acre. There were a lot of new shinny red pick-ups running around and business was BOOMIN'.
Then: Oil prices tanked and they left us with a
Decade of Disasters, and only 17 jobs. BUST.
Are we going to fall for another promised Boom?
Poverty and unemployment were very high in the valley in 2010, and still are.
Youngstown and Niles can not afford the $41 million to fix our dam.
The for-profit privatizing vultures are beginning to circle overhead.
Profitonium is a word
I just made up.
It is a tasteless element that when added to a public water supply often reduces quality while increasing the cost to the consumer.
Read what Food and Water Watch has to say about it.
Water Privatization
Union Labor
Collective Bargaining
Workers Rights
Prevailing Wages
ALL GONE!
When profit is king, labor becomes a liability.
Quality Union labor at Meander has been an asset to the Mahoning Valley for decades.
People are assets.
High quality water flows from Meander to 220,000 customers and has EVERY DAY for 90 years.
Clean groundwater provides water for many others in North East Ohio.
Lots of people on the planet and in this country are thirsty for water.
Do we dare take it for granted?
We could suit the State for $41.5 million but I think we would lose.
